The CFIN membership is open to Lawyers who have to give digital and forensic computer evidence. Law Enforcement Agents (including the Police, SSS, EFCC, ICPC, Customs, Immigration, FRSC etc), the Military, Information Technology (I.T.) Practitioners, Bank Inspectors, Accountants, Internal Auditors, External Auditors, Engineers, Officials of Government Regulatory Agencies e.g, CBN, NITDA, NCC, NASB, Nigeria Stock Exchange, SEC, INEC, NIMC etc.) Government Officials (Federal, State & Local), and anyone who has to give digital and forensic computer evidences or who is interested in carrying out research in the field.

aims & objectives

To provide a computer forensic training programme (formal training leading to membership, seminars, workshops and conferences) that will equip members with the competency to be aware of current and developing principles and practices within the digital and computer forensics field, and have technical know-how to carry out digital and computer forensics examinations on behalf of their clients & employers.

To professionalize and advance the science of digital and computer forensics

To provide a fair, uncompromised process for certifying the competency of digital and forensic computer examiners

To set high forensic and ethical standards for digital and forensic computer examiners

To conduct research and development into new and emerging technologies and methods in the science of digital and computer forensics.

To assist the Federal, State and Local Governments of Nigeria and the private sector (including financial institutions and individuals) in the prevention and detection of digital and computer fraud.

To publish articles in the print and electronic media on digital and computer forensics.

PRIVACY

Unless we receive written instructions to the contrary, we will only provide the names of Chartered
Computer Fornesics Examiners when we receive a valid inquiry related to an actual case. This inquiry must be made in writing by one of the parties involved. We will not provide any other information regarding chartered individuals to anyone else.

The listing of chartered individuals will be maintained and updated regularly and should be relied on for general inquiries. However, the most accurate method to obtain information is to contact us.

STATEMENT OF POLICY AND NON-DISCRIMINATION

Membership in CFIN and eligibility for the Chartered Computer Forensics Examiner is open to all persons regardless of race, color, creed, or national origin. Every reasonable accommodation is made to insure that all individuals are able to participate in the programs offered by CFIN.

Because of the sensitive nature of some methods and skills, CFIN may, at its discretion, bar persons suspected to be sponsoring terrorism and criminal activities from participation. Applicants will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

CFIN does not require that members belong to any other organization, before joining CFIN.

COMPLAINTS AND DISCIPLINE OF MEMBERS, CERTIFICATE REVOCATION

All complaints against members will be filed with CFIN Certification Board. The complaint will be in a written format outlining specific allegations. Complaints may originate internally or externally. If the Committee or an individual member thereof becomes aware of an allegation of unethical or unprofessional conduct on the part of a member, a complaint will be generated internally. In the event that an allegation is made against any member of the Committee, the normal complaint process will be followed. The accused will not be allowed to participate in discussions or decisions regarding the investigation. Anonymous complaints will not be accepted.

Complaints will normally be investigated by the CFIN Ethical Standards Committee. CFIN Ethical Standards Committee will make recommendations to CFIN Certification Committee.

Upon completion of the investigation, CFIN Ethical Standards Committee will generate a report. The Committee will review the complaint and investigation and assess disciplinary actions to be taken against the accused member. The Committee may determine that a member is exonerated on the allegation and in such case, the exoneration of the member will be so advised.

Discipline may be recommended if the member is determined to be guilty of any of the following acts:

-Perjury
-Falsifying or misrepresenting credentials
-Commission of any felony
-Falsifying or misrepresenting forensic examination results
-Cheating on examinations
-Falsifying training records
-Violating CFIN’s Code of Ethics and Professional Responsibility
-Refusing to cooperate in investigations including submission of written responses
-Committing any act to the detriment or CFIN or the credibility of members
-Falsifying or causing to be falsified through a third party any allegation against a member
-Theft or fraud
- Termination or Dismissal from an employment for fraudulent or dishonest practices

Discipline may include:

-Retesting
-Expulsion
-Suspension
-Revocation of certificate
-Monitoring by other members (Peer Review)

USE OF CFIN ’S LIST SERVER, FORUM AND CHAT ROOMS

The members may post questions about technical issues and other issues pertinent to the field and science of computer forensics. Protracted technical discussions should be conducted off-list between individual members.

As solutions are found to problems posted members are encouraged to advise the general membership of the solution.

Members will not post any defamatory information on the list server and should refrain from unprofessional message traffic. Any abuse of the system will result in the member being barred from posting further traffic and may result in expulsion from CFIN.
